This telescope offers a tremendous value for the money competing favorably with telescopes costing twice as much. The performance of the SV optic is assured with triple testing including a star test. Amy lenses that do not meet our rigorous standards are rejected. The objective is a hand figured ED doublet made with Ohara extra low dispersion glass. This telescope is often wait listed as it takes longer to make truly state of the art optics. But the wait is worth it.The Stellarvue SV102ED is a four inch doublet ED refractor telescope. The SV102ED uses a high performance hand figured ED lens. The telescope is designed as a visual telescope but can be used photographically when used with our SFF7-21 field flattener.Fully multicoated ED objective lens: The 102ED is powered by a 102 mm f-6.95 doublet objective lens made with an Ohara FPL-51 ED element. Color correction and contrast is superior to a typical 102 mm achromat. The lenses are hand figured by a master optician to a high Strehl ratio. This telescope's optics have several layers of extreme broadband coatings applied to all four of the lens surfaces. This further enhances the contrast of the image: the stars appear vivid and bright against a dark black background. These coatings transmit light above and below the visual spectrum making them well suited for ccd imaging.Stardust white aluminum tube and dew shield: The aluminum tube and dew shield is painted in a lustrous and beautiful stardust white finish. This white finish will stand out against the black anodized aluminum fittings giving this telescope a high-end sophisticated look. The dew shield can either be extended or retracted. Extension reduces dewing at night can cut out the light from those blaring street lamps. The dew shield also serves as a lens shade during the day.
